Recently started building a 302 form a 1990 f250 when I noticed one of my exhaust vaulves was hanging open. I found when I remove the rocker it'll snap back closes but once I tighten the rocker down it pushes the vaulve open a bit. I've tried swaping around rockers and pushrods only for that same vaulve to always be open. I have tried doing some research on this only to find people just saying to lash them but on my block I only have bolts and do not have the ability to lash them. If anyone knows a solution that doesn't involve a machine shop that would be best since the nearest one is a two hour dive.
Sometimes hydraulic lifters can have a very slow bleed down rate with cold oil and stock valve spring loads. What happens if you put the rocker arm back on and then bump the engine around so that it is sitting with the valve at about max lift overnight? Another thing you might do is put a shim/thin flat washer under that rocker arm to raise it up a bit, get it running and warmed up and then try it again without the shim in place.
