Lowering a 89 F150 - Advice Needed

Hello All.

As I begin every post, I would like to thank all of you who have been so helpful in the past.

Now, on to business. I am trying to learn the best (safest, least expensive, easiest to do) way to lower my 1989 F150 2WD Short Bed. The aftermarket products do nothing but confuse me. Can anyone set me on the right path?

I am a novice (at most things) but really enjoy tinkering. I have been doing some bodywork (sanding) and plan to paint the truck in the Spring. I would REALLY like to lower it prior to painting.

So, please Guys, let me know something.

As always, your help is sincerely appreciated,

Jim Prince

Thanks Bud.... I have found a kit which include "Flip Brackets" and "Dream Bars" (I Beams I'm sure). The only question that remains is the amount of "drop". Would you suggest a 3/4 or a 3/5? The 3/4 costs a little more and includes both "Flip Brackets" and "Shackels". Any help here would be appreciated. Also, should I replace my shocks? They seem to be fine.

Thanks,

Jim Prince

you will need shorter shocks front and rear i think, i'm not in to the low rider thing, but have installed these kits on a few rangers.

depending on how the truck sits now is how i would judge what kit to buy. if it sits high in the rear then go 3/5

but the 3/4 kit sounds nicer as far as parts goes.

Thanks for your help. As it is now, the back of the truck is certainly higher than the front. If I can trouble you with ONE more question, it would be this. I have had some experience working on cars, and would feel comfortable doing the job myself, UNLESS there were a few "tricky tasks" or special tools I may need. Any guidance you could provide will be appreciated. Thank You for all of your help DD.

i belive your suspension is similar to my 96 ranger. If you want a mild drop you should go with a 3/4 drop. that will drop you and level you out. Of course your f150 may be like my friends and be really high in the back so you may want to go 5 inches. Get a DJM drop kit, will include i beams and a flip kit. to do this you wont need to replace your shocks, stock will work but may ware out a little sooner. try godfather customs, best price i could find for my truck.

depends where you are from. i needed a torch, hamer and prybar to do mine but i have a NY truck. everything gets rusted on here. If you are southern more all you should need are the normal tools. I dont remeber anything odd.
