BigMattXXL: First line of defense in our nation's airports, at your service...
I was officially sworn in to my new federal job today. I'll be screening baggage at BWI (Baltimore Washington International Airport) looking for explosives, drugs, weaponry, and personal massagers
So here I am, protector of our nation's airports, ensuring "freedom of movement and commerce (from my handbook)" )
I am ready.
I FEAR NO TERRORIST SCUM. BRING IT ON!

I'm not quite a Fed yet - I don't get to wear black suits or speak in paragraph form.
But I'm working on it!
I don't know much, but I know three things about this job:
- No Uniform.
- No interaction with the public.
- Get paid a lot more than I did at National Tire & Battery, where I had a uniform and had to deal with the public.

Remember, no matter what; DO NOT let any Congressional Medal of Honor winners through those gates possessing their medals!!
Remember that a while back?? I hope that schmuck was deported back to the planet Uranus!

I'll be screening baggage behind the scenes, so no public interaction for me

Matt,
Not to take the hot air out of your balloon but I work at an airport. I've gone through the TSA security training as I'm sure you have. And it's all junk.
Security is a joke. If the terrorists still want to use an aircraft were not going to be able to stop them.
But good for you on the job. Just please don't be like 2 of the screeners I know.

I lost what little faith I had in airport security in Phoenix when they all but strip searched my 90 year Mother-in-Law who was being pushed in her wheel chair by her 65 year old Daughter. We need to make armed pilots mandatory and have baggage that doesn't pass the scanner opened in front of the owner as they do in Pittsburgh. I don't trust some stranger, pawing through my stuff and taking what they want. They may or may not be monitored, but what if the monitor is a crook also ?

I'm just happpy to have a decent paying job (it'll make tuition much easier to handle) that actually has some credibility on a resume, instead of just working some crappy retail job to make a paycheck.
Sad world we live in...
What did the two screeners you know do?

A huge problem right now is people making false claims - my dad said some rapper claimed that $200,000 worth of jewelry was taken from her bag. It was taken, alright, but it was plastic Mardi Gras beads and other crap like that - not even worth $10. Apparently, the employees were caught taking it out of the bag and stuffing it in a locker.

Dennis Miller Quote
I'm pretty sure it was Dennis Miller who said this:
"The only difference in Airport Security since 9/11 is instead of A black chick named Quaneesha with six-inch fingernail rooting through my stuff, it's an old white bald guy named Roy doing it!
I have to go through security every day (several times every day) at DFW airport. Security is still a JOKE! I bought a very expensive pair of "airport friendly" shoes (no metal), just so I would'nt have to take them off every day. Even though I don't set off the Mag when I go through, about half of the time some dim-bulb TSA "Agent" will make me take them off anyway for a secondary screening.
I know that the TSA folks take a lot of crap from passengers, but for employees and frequent flyers alike, it is such a beating dealing with this every day.
And a little food for thought: the servers in the restaurants I manage at DFW make about 3 times as much money an hour as the TSA supervisors...I know because I give him free food and sometimes he will let my delivery guys get through the checkpoint faster.
