I haven't heard of anyone using Pacesetters, but have heard of many other brands (Hedman, Clifford, Hooker, others). Most report the need to be moderately "mechanical", with some minor grinding and fabrication/alteration being needed in most cases.
Having access to a spare head/engine to "mock-up" the mating beforehand will smooth the process. I spent several hours doing that with my spare engine (on a stand). It would have been a royal PITA to have done it over the fender.
The Offy may have better clearance than my Clifford - I had to grind the header flange repeatedly to finally get a mate. I ultimately opted to go with EFI's to preserve starter R&R ease.
I bought a set of headman headers from a parts plus store. Then I had them ceramic coated. These particular headers are very quality. They have a 3/8" thick flange and 2-5/8" collectors. I am very pleased with them.
Why do the Hedmans only work on 2wd? I want some for my 4x4 six, but what could possiably be in the way, I could almost fit beside the engine, there plenty of room.
I just installed my hedmans this weekend and a cliffy carb adapter. it all took about 6 hours the worst part being the carb adapter. the headers were a little tricky but bolted right up with no problem with leaks or mating. the starter was the hard part. had to pretty much put the starter in after the header was on but had to have a buddy use a pry bar to push the pipe away about an 1/8th inch to squeeze the starter into place. but all is good and fits. I got them from summit $134. mines a 66 so no emmissions to deal with. headers going into glasspacks. sounds reall good in neutral and idle but sounds like a ricer when you get the revs up and under a load. so I deffinitly need to get a full exhaust. the sound doesnt match the truck. haha
I like my single outlet header, VERY easy to get the starter out and I had no problems bolting it up. But all in all, I think I payed a tad too much for it...
