Swapping E4OD Pan with Plug, Anything Else Required?
I am going to replace my factory transmission pan with F81Z 7A194 BA, the pan with a plug. I read something, not entirely comprehensible, in another thread about a (fluid) pickup. I'm replacing the gasket, filter, and partial fluid change at the same time. Do I need to change any of the internals of the transmission in order to accommodate this pan?
There was a shallow pan on a two wheel drive transmission. There was a deeper pan on the four wheel drive transmission. The filters are different for each pan, the four wheel drive filter has a longer oil pickup tube to reach into the deeper pan.
I have an expensive 400 dollar Hughes, finned aluminum pan on mine, love it
They claim it adds structural rigidity as well as a few more quarts of capacity (yes, I have to use the bronco or a 4x4 filter)
I do go wheelin' in the mountains of Utah and do worry about hitting rocks and trees at times
I have had mine on there for ten years or more now
So far so good
So, for a regular pan ( 2 wheel drive ) at Ford Parts Giant it is F6TZ-7A194-A for about $57.00 and it did not say it had a drain, F7UZ-7A194-AB is actually a complete kit with deep pan and drain plug, filter, gasket, and bolts for about $48.00. Both of these are for the E4OD / 4R100 transmissions and the deep pan assembly seem to be a pretty good deal.
It's worth the effort to rotate the engine to see if the converter has a drain plug. If it does, you might as well drain that too.
The rubber/reusable pan gaskets can only be used on the newer pan. So, it might be a good idea to confirm whatever pan you are going to use that the gasket will work.
A quick search does not show that F7UZ-7A194-AB is a complete kit. It appears to be just a pan. At least with the quick search I did.
