I am very disappointed with the headlights of my 2000 Excursion. They are poor in both low and high beam capacity. Does anybody have any recommendations for an upgrade of the lighting? Are the new 2003 lights much better? TIA
John
Go with the SilverStars and add a SUV wire harness. Simple plug and play. It will boost the voltage to 14.4 instead of the 12.2v you get stock. You will see the difference

What is an "SUV wire harness", and from where does one buy one?
Go to www.suvlights.com, then go to headlight wire harness ( upper lefthand corner). If and when you get the harness make sure that you have a good ground.
About a 10 to 15 min. install tops.

No doubt, you will see the difference,
how about the life of the bulb and is there any extra heat generated in the harness
because of the boost?
The SUV harness is heavy duty and have never had a problem with heat. I run APC`s headlights with Silverstars in the both the Hi`s and Low`s, a home made BriteBox ( dims stay on with the brights) with the SUV harness. I have ran for hours at a time ( 3 to 4) and checked the harness and still cool. Been runnig the setup since Jan.
I also bought the SilverStar light bulbs about 6 month ago and would not want to miss them again. You definately see the difference.
For the Excursion, the Part # is 9007ST by Silvania (Osram Co.).
You can find them pretty much everywhere, from Wal-Mart (cheapest - sold in 2-pack, approx. $ 37) to AutoZone and other Auto Parts Stores.
Installation is easy, just as you would replace a regular Headlight Bulb. If you need more info on that, you can refer to your Owner's Manual.
I just hope that Silvania will bring out their "Xenarc" System for the Ford Superduty/Excursions as well. So far only available for the F-150...
tHANKS, I got them and installed them, They are definitely the most cost effective improvements made so far. Sure beats the $600 i paid to have the PIAA's fog lights installed.
