I have purchased and broke 2 of the Dennis Carpenter brake handles. Any ideas of a replacement that can stand up to a good heavy tug? Here are a few photos
I suspect that an original used parking brake assembly, with a good condition handle, will outlast the aftermarket handles that all the vendors are selling. For used parts, I’d try Brian, at Slick Truck Parts, post an ad on Slick Sixties Parts FaceBook page or keep checking EBay. I did buy an NOS one from EBay a few years back. You could try searching the FTE archives using the advance search feature and typing the key word NumberDummy. If you get the part number, you can search RearCounter or PartsVoice to see if any are still available NOS, but I’d doubt it. Good luck.
Not sure where/when the change was made but on my 66, I assume original handle, the mounting point is centered in the handle. I’m guessing yours breaks because with the offset you tend to pull more on one side causing side stress?

Probably so, it is offset. The brake requires a good amount of tension to set the brakes. When I got the truck the one on there was offset too and didn't last long.
Are you applying the foot brake with some force then pulling the E- brake? If not, you will break the handles. The system doesn't have enough mechanical advantage to apply the rear drums with full force.

I am not sure. I never make it a point to, but normally I would be at a stop so I think my foot would at least be resting on the break. The next time I take it out I will ensure I am pushing down hard.
I just noticed the OP’s photo of the broken handle. No wonder they keep breaking they are not the T-shaped handle my 66 has. It has one leg of the T offset to the side, putting lots of stress on it when pulling, causing it to snap. What would be the original application for that handle?

I believe all early 60's Ford cars used the offset handle. Now DC is just reproducing the one style..... unfortunately. Scott Drake makes a billet handle... Still offset, but at least it's aluminum.... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-c5zz2760blt
