chuckle....remember the old Ford straight six that went on forever? Well the v10 seems to have taken its place they are long running engine systems. I think the 10cylinders makes it run better balanced and contributes to its durability. Talked to a guy with an old straight six that wore out three trucks then was used to operate a crane and ended up pumping irrigation water and may yet still be pumping.

Hey 4445. Apologizes that it's been awhile since responding. August was a tornado of things to be done before the back to school bell.

The tent is a Kodiak Canvas tent and I also purchase the inflatable mattress for the box. That one is made to form around the wheel wells and
has flaps to go over the top of the well (so there's no hole ).

Takes about 30 mins to put together from tailgate opening to putting covers onto the mattress. Every system has it negatives and this might not work for others.
It does work for me and my family. Pluses are easy to store (we live in a condo), light weight and portable (with truck of course).

How did you decide on using synth in your tranny? I was thinking about that to get more or longer life out of my tranny.
And is it true that amsoil is $11 per quart?

Over to you 4445,

Cheers

Yep, about the maintenance, I follow the manual except I am old school about the 3,000 mile oil change interval and lube every other oil change. Clean battery terminals every spring and fall, etc.

Most of my driving is nearly empty at 65 mph, cruise on. I try to use the truck gently, partly because it enhances gas mileage, partly because I love the truck and want to make it last. We are fortunate here in "the high lonesome" to have a dry climate and the State of Wyoming uses very little salt. I rinse the undercarriage after the snow/salt season. The truck is probably still nearly all original; I've replaced two tie rod ends, ball joints once and the hubs once. I installed a Banks Power Pack at 100,000 miles.

I tow a 32 ft. 7,000 lb. travel trailer occasionally, usually up into the adjacent Black Hills for camping, scouting and hunting.

I'll make the Quarter-Million Mile Club next year. But the Half-Million? I think this truck will outlast me....

I think the tent system you have is ideal for many applications in which you need something compact and lite that gives protection from the elements. As for synthetics I have used them in all systems for many years and began using them in 1976. I convert trannies differentials brakes power steering over after a vehicle breaks in. I have never had any tranny engine system issues since I began using syn. Trannies I change fluid every 100,000 miles. Cost is a bit more but its cheap insurance if you plan on keeping a vehicle plus it is an attractive feature for prospective buyers when you do sell it. But I have noticed a difference in different brands of syn. I don't wish to endorse any particular brand so I won't mention names but the company I favor does make lubricants for pretty much all systems. Pm me for more info

Is the running gear all original? You beat my 94 bronco which was still running perfect when donated to the salvation army a couple of years ago at almost 400k. Bronco had had synthetics in since broke in and I bought it new then sold it to a friend that kept up on the maintence, all full syn till he donated it. Good job, now go for the million mile club!.....cept the body don't look like it will make it to the mill mark. East coast vehicles die young not like out west.

My F350 6.0 KR Dually has just turned 33,000 miles. Has tons of upgrades and sounds sweet.
