Good conversation here! I am considering the IPR intercooler and the snow plow clutch fan next spring. The reason I mention this is that when I go up both Snoqualmie and Blewitt pass, they are very long grades going up and I am usually in hot weather. My ECT/EOT's run high. My fan does not turn on until, I think 235 deg ECT, which is way too hot for my comfort zone! Will the IPR radiator keep my engine cooler? If I do end up upgrading to the IPR radiator, I am also considering an upgraded water cooler. Since I have the 03 6.0 engine, I know my impeller is the 90mm impeller. Will these two upgrades keep my engine much cooler? I hate hearing the loud fan running, but what I hate more is the high ECT/EOT's.

Thanks for the help everyone!!!

Because the real answer is it has a slightly higher speed when not commanded on. Meaning as soon as the PCM starts the step-up there is no functional difference between the two, and the PCM command rates don't change based on which clutch plugged into the harness. It will stay locked in longer if you've been idling and met a parameter to engage the clutch, ie AC or high idle. It doesn't have any effect on towing ECT above 40mph.

My truck came with the factory plow clutch.

I don't know what the difference is. I can tell you that there is something funky going on with my lack of EGR pids, possibly a corrupted PCM, which may be affecting my fan operation. And it's possible that was going on last summer when I briefly ran the snow plow clutch. I did monitor it with AE for a couple days driving around town, and I can verify that when driving lower speeds, engine and fan rpm's are closely linked, in that any tap on the gas pedal caused a relative increase in fan speed, and a subsequent slow down when letting off the gas pedal.

If what you're saying is true, the question for me is - What causes it to have a slightly higher speed when not commanded on?

Logic says that more cooling fins in the radiator, and higher coolant flow should make the cooling system more efficient. At low speeds, however, that radiator won't make much difference unless the fan is doing its job.

I am considering the radiator and water pump upgrades also. It would be nice to hear if they made any difference from someone who has done them.

.
So, that was kind of my thought process regarding a larger radiator/fan and such. When towing and climbing a grade, my ECTs start to climb and climb unless I activate my clutch fan. My current fan drops temps fairly well when I activate it. Yet, I do not like to see my coolant temps rise above 220. I am sure my ECT's would have exceeded 222 this last trip if I did not manually activate my clutch fan.I do not want to push my luck let my clutch fan automatically turn on as my ECT's will go above 230 or more before the darn fan activates. I"m looking for a solution (other than activating my fan manually) to keep my EOT/ECT's around 210 deg if possible. My family hates hearing the fan spool up, me, it sounds like assurance that my truck is not going to overheat. I do not know why my fan does not turn on automatically once my ETC's are above 220? I also reviewed my receipts for my truck and found that I do have an upgraded waterpump with the billet impeller for the 2003 6.0, it's the smaller 90mm pump. I'm just trying to find why my truck is running hotter than it should be & why the fan is not turning when I get ECT's until the truck is @ 235ish?

Have you cleaned out the fins on the radiator, CAC and condenser?

I picked up the lisle radiator tool set and spent probably an hour blowing everything out and my pickup runs a solid 10 degrees cooler when pulling the camper. I didn't think there was that much crap stuck in the radiator but with gravel dust, bugs, etc it all adds up.
