I would like to install Altman latches but the problem is you need to cut a part of the door in order to install them.

I don't think an aluminum striker plate would last long. It would be too soft and would wear easily.

Seems currently I have two options buy original door strikers or buy new chrome ones and exchange them every several years.

Dennis carpenter seems to have the non chrome ones for the 1955 and other years are these possible to install?

Here is an ebay auction for an NOS 53-55 striker plate. I have found these striker plateslast longer than the repopped chrome ones.

If you opted for the Altman latch it comes with a billet aluminum striker...or you can make one that looks even better...
Body and paintwork will be necessary however.
