Hey guys, A while back I installed the push rods and tightened the rockers.
I had a coolant leak and had to pull the intake to re-gasket. With the intake off I grabbed a couple push rods and they moved freely. About 4 of them, the rest were snug as I would expect.
should those four be loose due to position of the cam? Should I remove valve covers and tighten?
I agree and ended up pulling a valve cover and found a couple very loose. I did try to start the truck for the first time which may be why the few are that loose. I am going to double check each one. Any in the up position are def snug and do not spin, which I would expect.
thanks for the help, I will update tomorrow after double checking the rockers.
What valve train do you have as I thought all rockers get tighten down to a tq and should be set?
Or is the valve train adjustable and if so how did you go about adjusting the valves?
Before you go adjusting them, build oil psi by pre-lubing the motor.
If at TDC build oil psi and see what rockers get oil to them.
Then turn the motor 1/4 turn and build oil PSI again.
1/4 turn build oil PSI.
Keep doing this till the motor is back at TDC. Remember the timing mark will come by once and on the 2nd time it will be TDC.
Then check all the push rods if loose. If everything is right and non-adjustable valve train everything should be tight because the lifters pumped up.

What year truck ? I keep saying this, you can add that info to your "sig" by clicking on your screen name in the upper right corner and use the menu. A lot us of have added that.
Thanks, I was wondering about that. I have not had the pleasure to get that far into my truck.
It is just from what I seen posted so could be all wrong too
But I dont think so unless someone went and changed the studs over to adjustable type.
For the OP unless the lift on the cam was changed and not knowing how the valves were adjusted to start I think the lifters just bleed down over time.

I seem to recall the lifters should hold their oil, My 340 Plymouth had rocker shafts too. When I put the bigger cam and new lifters in back in 1974, after pumping the lifters up in pan of oil before installing them, I just torqued the shaft bolts to 30ftlbs.
I don't recall if I reused the push rods or not.
Pumping up dose not always work thatis why I said starting from TDC to pre-lube the motor and turn the crank 1/4 and lube again till back to TDC
