WARNING.......
I am getting ready to shove off on a 3-week trip, a couple thousand miles. Be my longest trip thus far.
I had my tires on my TV rotated, they are only a few months old, and I thought I better check on my spare too, as it has never seen any use EVER, on my 2011 truck.
I asked the tire place to put a new tire on, that would match the tire I had purchased from them prior.
They asked for the spare tire holder key.......
What??????
Well, we couldn't replace it, and I came home investigating ways I might be able to remedy this and get a spare installed before I headed out.
All the YouTube stuff didn't work, I had to get under the truck and cut off the bracket.....arg.
After I had the tire on the ground, I rolled it over to see how it "matched" with my existing "upgraded" tires....
It didn't, it was much smaller in diameter, way smaller and I couldn't imagine placing it on my truck even for a short distance without problems, doubly so pulling my trailer.
I have a new bracket on its way, and I will take in the spare and get the right tire, and hopefully never need it....
I am told if I had this happen on the road in nowhere-land, you could be out hundreds and hundreds of dollars, just to get you to the next biggest town where you'd then have to try and match up your tires, etc......
YIKES....
So folks, you might want to know WHAT YOU DO HAVE under your TV, and if it will work, etc, and if you can even get to it if you are on the side of the road......
You've been WARNED!
My opinion is that a spare tire that isn't the same size isn't that big of a deal. It's not like you're going to be driving it for thousands of miles before getting the regular tire fixed/replaced.
Now, what did you do about the trailer's spare tire?
