Shift point programming

Hey all,

I have noticed my X is not making good use of its low end torque in city driving. I was experimenting with different acceleration levels from stop and noticed that if I hold a max of 2000 rpm the tranny holds onto the gears too long. Seems to me it will accelerate pretty well w/o your foot on the floor if the tranny will go on and up-shift.
I only have computer/sensor experience on my Corvette, but I figure the computer uses a throttle position sensor or some such to determine what the driver wants and assigns shifts accordingly. If I'm wrong say so, please.
Does anyone know what it takes to reprogram the points?? What does ford use to communicate with the computer?? Can I buy one?? $$$
Anybody played w/ this stuff??

Your obedient servant,

JACIII

When you take it up to 2000 rpms, back off the throttle a hair and it should shift. With the "adaptive learning" shift strategy, a few months of this kind of driving and the ECU may start shifting that way by itself.

Happy Holidays! :-X12

Hey NoMo,

That explains it; the poor thing is schizophrenic! With me driving it like an 18-wheeler and the wife drivin' it like Richard Petty there isn't much point in trying to move those points.

Have a Safe Christmas,

JACIII
