Hi all, I'm having a problem with my work van that is very inconvenient. It started off, every once in awhile, it would not start, let it set for a 30 minutes to an hour cycling the key and it would start. It's gotten more frequent to the point we are at now it will not start. Everything lights up on the dash but no crank or anything. The PRND21 display is just dashed lines and the security light flashes fast. I've tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and hooking it back up to no avail. I've also cycled by turning the key to the on position for 10ish minutes until the security light stays solid 3x and still nothing. When i bought the van from a used dealership the only key it came with was an aftermarket key. I suspected it was the key but the only way the local dealership can make me a factory key is to have the van towed to them (which I will do if I can't figure it out), I just hate to do that for a key.
I can find very minimal info about this online so hoping someone here has some advice. Im at my wits end having to drag all my tools around in my superduty when I have an otherwise good van sitting in my driveway doing nothing.
PATS can be frustrating and making new keys can be difficut to impossible. If there is a problem with the PATS module, it will need to be fixed. You can't do anything without some type of computer or scan tool. Forscan is used by many and it is free. Forscan may be able to program keys for your vehicle, but they will still need to be cut.
Thank you, i've been wanting to look into fourscan anyways to change some things on my superduty. A buddy of mine dropped off a decent craftsman scanner today but of course it was down pouring rain all day. I will scan it tomorrow and see if anything pops up.
Well, plumbing is above all of us mechanics pay grade too
My friends dad is a long time plumber.
I know the cardinal rule, and do enjoy dabbling in plumbing myself
My stinkin Moen is leaking and I got free cartridge
This time I bought a puller but the threads were wrong
I re tapped the puller threads and got a correctly threaded screw
Replaced the cartridge with the jippo China one that came with the puller
It now leaks worse than it did before, I read later not to use the jippo stuff and called Moen for a free replacement
I have that to look forward to. Do you think I am on the right track? The fixture is only about 6 years old and was installed by a pro the first time
I did notice hard water crusty crap inside the housing where the cartridge goes. Should I worry about that?
Thanks
The instrument clusters sure are an issue on some of these years trucks
Some of them will only start after waiting a few moments with the key on
Forscan can read those pats codes and send you in the right direction
Might take about as long to figure out as plumbing a new house (unless you are well versed and have a ton of test equipment)
Time is money, bloom where you are planted
I make good money fixing cars and sometimes leave the plumbing for you guys

I hate Moen for a reason. Half the time the puller doesn't work and I have to break the cartridge out in pieces. Did you grease the rubber sides of the cartridge before installing it?

I do have a lot of tools and do enjoy fixing/maintaining my fleet, when it comes to all the electrical stuff that's when I usually bow out. It gets to be overwhelming haha.
I did use what I thought was special silicone grease on the new cartridge.
What brand do you like?
I've always been a Delta guy, IMO superior products to install and maintain.
Tried calling the locksmith and he said it sounds more like a PCM issue....so towed off the the dealership it went this afternoon. I looked at remanned PCM through Flagship One and Car Computers but they have less than favorable reviews online and youtube. I just want this done so I can spend more time and money on upgrades for my SD lol.
Update: Turns out there was a bad connector under the dash making communication with the PCM impossible. $627 dollars later its back on the road . Good news though, the dealership I took it to gives a free carfax account for any vehicle that gets serviced there. Turns out, the engine was replaced with a Ford reman 53,000 miles ago. Called the dealership listed on the carfax and they sent me all the paperwork for the engine replacement.
