Just put my motor back in my 73 4x4 sat. I am needing to know what length the cables for positive and negative . When I took motor out someone had put some in that were way to long
Thanks
A guess of a 10" to 12" RED cable to go from + on the (inner fenderwell) stater solenoid to the + on the battery. And make sure you put the battery in with the + on the back side and the - in the front. And the other one is from the block gnd by the alternator (?) to the - on the battery. I would guess a 2 footer black for the neg.
Make sure that the negative cable is attached to the engine block and you run a separate smaller one to the body.
Before you put the tube into the pan run a bead of silicone around the end f the tube or it will leak.
Cable minimum lengths can be determined running an old piece of small hose, rope, or cut off lead from a junk TV and cutting to length, then measure that.
My '77 oil dip stick tube goes into the side of the oil pan, it does not use a O ring, just a 3/8" tube nut tightened to seal a trapped metal swell in the tube to the oil pan's receptacle.
Got it thanks
One other thing I noticed was my oil stick tube was really easy to pull out where it goes into oil pan
Is something missing oring etc?
You are talking about the outer body tube correct? If it is not the thread in style, then yes maybe a o ring or just a flare on the end of the outer tube that is worn. I have had to use some of "The Right Stuff" RTV to make it stay in. Just a little around the outside usually works. And it is not permanent like JB weld.
