trans swap question

I have a 1991 F150, 302, 4x4, E4OD. I am installing an E4OD from a 1993 F150, 302, 4x4. E4OD. It seems to all bolt up except the shift linkage, anybody have this problem? The plugs seem to be different as well on the linkage. One shifts back on the top the other shifts back on the bottom, so 90 degree difference?... (one pushes clockwise the other counter clockwise) Just at a complete loss here, any help appreciated. Thank you

Your 1991 truck uses a mechanical linkage for the shifter. 1992 and up use the cable type actuator. You have to swap the external bell crank/lever/arm to get the donor transmission to work with your linkage.

If someone installed the updated MLPS assembly I suggest to keep the newer one. Then source the newer style connector.

I can splice in the plug, but what about the direction of the shift lever? One is clockwise the other is counterclockwise.

Change the shift lever is the only option that I am aware of.

91 also uses a mechanical cable speedometer driven by a gear in the tailshaft of the transfer case. 93 uses an electronic speedometer driven off the VSS.
