02 E350 COP brass inserts advice
2nd retaining bolt was not tight, concerning. As I got it out, found brass threads from the insert had torn and were on bolt shaft. After I sorted out the thread and pitch which is M5 x 8.0for all you future hunters sleuthing for that impossible to find piece of information, I ran a die on bolt thread and cleaned. Then I caught a bend in the bolt halfwsy up shank. How do you do that? Someone got in a big hurry with a large ratchet.
I will see how the insert cleans up with tap. But if I change intake, am I stuck with same 02 POS design or is the Dorman an improvement? What did Ford improve on 03 re-design?
Are they interchangeable?
Will anything help next time like anti seize?
Truck has maybe 100,000 miles.Don't trust odometer. Time to change all plugs and all coils?
I have used them with no problems several times
I think I would glue the coil down at least once
Or try to fix it like you are
Good luck
There are tools used to reset these inserts by hand with a specially fitted 40 watt soldering iron, it seems these inserts are most commonly found in printed circuit boards or similar items. Here's a YouTube link that might be helpful for installation ideas as well as a source for parts and tools:
Do keep in mind I've never done this myself but I hope its helpful anyway. Let us know how this turns out if you try this method.
