Hey guys,
I have an 86 F150 with the 300 in it. being an 86 its equipped with the Carter feedback carb, and all the old sensors and electronic crap which im pretty sure doesn't work after almost 40 years. After reading on here about some folks with the same problem, I figured my truck was in limp mode, which explains my awfully slow 35 second 0-60. I'm also running into a running rich condition, where sometimes I can smell fumes inside the cab. (Ive checked for leaks and there are none). It idles decently, but not as smooth as id like it to.
based off this, I have some questions:
1- can I disconnect the sensors on the carb and disconnect the computer and run without affecting the distributor? or would I have to swap over to a mechanical carb and DS II ignition? My thought process is that essentially disconnecting the sensors would leave it as a mechanical carb, correct?
2- If so, would it run better? or would I run into other issues?
3- do I have any alternative solutions?

No. There is a reason people buy new distributor and carbs to swap out what you have. Will it still run? Yes. Will you have good power and fuel mileage? No.
The only alternative is to get the original computer system going again. It's somewhat complex and parts are hard to get.
All of that stuff is available at a junkyard, if you have one locally. I pulled all of it out of an 83 Bronco for around $20.
Alternatively, it's all also available new for more dough.
