Yesterday I went through and replaced all the turn signal and reverse/backup light sockets on my 1978 F250 4x4. I also replaced the hazard flasher. Now all my brake/signal/backup/marker lights are working except my turn signal don’t flash - they stay solid when signal is on. Hazards function perfectly. I purchased a second new flasher assuming the current flasher is bad.
My issue is I can’t locate the directional flasher. I searched everywhere under the dashboard with no luck. After researching this site I pulled the instrument cluster out to check the area around the headlight switch… no luck. It doesn’t seem to be anywhere behind the bashboard.
Are there any alternative locations the directional flashers were installed? The truck has factory AC and Speed Control if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance!
Mine is on a slightly longer lead that allows it to hang down, so I have it tucked up above the lip like below the wiper switch area ... but it's hidden as it rests on top side of the lower lip of the metal dash board. I can lay in the floor, look up, and not see it. The 4 way flasher is very visible up higher on a shorter lead.
It is back in there, look on the dvr side kick panel area also. Looks just like the other one shape wise, just a different color. You would think with the instrument cluster out you would be able to find it. Good luck. Also make sure you have very good clean grounds on the taillight sockets you replaced.
Or if the flasher is hiden maybe ... look for a black plastic connector with two contacts positioned like an "ell" (L) ... a blue wire and a orange/yellow wire as I recall.
Thanks. I located blue and orange wire and chased it down. It was tucked in between headlight switch and windshield wiper switch against the dash. All lights are functioning correctly for the first time in 18 years I’ve had this truck.
Yes they do. Of course when the gauge panel was out I replaced all the bulbs with 194 LEDs… now it appears a few of the bulb sockets need to be replaced. I have 12v to at sockets on printed circuit but the sockets are in rough shape… always something.
