390 crankshaft/rods
I am looking for a 390 FE crankshaft and rods. I went to most of the wrecking yards here in the Fresno /Madera area and found a couple but they want 50 bucks and then its a bear to pull em .I was wondering if anybody knew of a place in California (or Central Fresno Ca.area) that sells reconditioned or even used ones that I could pick up cheap? If you know anyone pls let me know ...even a private party who has one to get rid of I also have 429 parts to trade and even some FE parts if someone wants.

Hey there,
I'm in oregon, but around here U-pull its get $125 for a longblock and usually a little extra. All you have to do is take out the bolts. It's worth it on most early V8's even if all you need is the heads. You can always sell the rest. I pulled the engine I'm having rebuilt right now from a truck in a row of 30 or so 67-79 fords. I had a good selection and chose one with the extra main web block and the D2TE heads. When I pulled it apart, I found an engine with maybe 20K miles +.030, a never ground crank and heads that were already drilled and bronze guides installed and oiling mods done to them. The guides already drilled saved me half what I payed for the longblock in machining costs. About crankshafts- There are alot of people out there who think 390 cranks are worth alot. One guy tried to sell me one for $200 saying everyone wants them to stroke their 360's. I told him there are no more 360's because everyone's already got 390's and the only cranks worth money are 410 and 428 cranks so people can stroke thier 390's. I think If you look around you'll find a better deal than pulling it yourself for $50.
