how is the factory tach hooked up? mine is somehow unhooked(most likely at the engine) and I would like to get it going again, but the only wire that I dont have going anywhere is a red one(it ran w/this wire unhooked)any ideas?
It gets its signal straight from the coil on the DG/Y wire, power thru fuse 18 on the R/Y wire, and grounds thru the Bk/DG wire in the small (4-pin) connector. Check the fuse.
I've got a similar problem with my '81 Bronco stock tach, only it comes and goes whenever it pleases. There's a short somewhere but where do I start looking?
yeap hooks up off the coil. mine was acting flakey all over the
place. Took a wire brush attachment on my dremel tool and
cleaned the terminals on the connector and the coil then sprayed
some electrical sealant on it and it has preformed flawlessy ever
since.
