Hello, I have a truck that I am having a hard time getting info on. It is a 1971 Mexican made 2 door crew cab. I have never seen another one, and cannot find any info for it. I reached out to Ford Era but haven't gotten a response yet. If anyone knows anything about this truck, will you please contact me? Thanks. Jimmy K
Did you just buy it? I been eyeing this one up for quite a while now. Looks to be a Mexico/South America built 2 door crew cab. Not much info on them other then a few articles online.
I don't know anything about it other than it's Bitchin and I would like to have one. I'm not sure they have a Marti report on these or not it wouldn't hurt to check with them. I do know that the rest of the world got the smaller 4 door trucks long before the U.S. did.
Marti reports are only for US made vehicles. I have only found 1 picture on the net of a similar truck. It was a guy who said he saw it at a car show in Glendale AZ, not far from my house. But nothing other than that.
If I recall correctly, Ford Era (who you already reached out to) also had a fairly similar truck that he picked up in TN from the Soddy Daisy collection. He referred to it as a "prototype factory supercab" and it certainly seemed to be built a little more roughshod than this one. Mexico certainly had different options for trucks, like the B-series, but this truck is the only one in this configuration that I've ever seen photos of. In fact, if you Google image search "1971 ford supercab mexico," pictures of this exact truck are the only ones that come up, posted on this forum previously by another user. It makes me wonder if it was a home-built truck at some point, or if maybe it is a rare experimental vehicle. They do exist. It may be worth getting a hold of Ford and explaining the situation, surely they will redirect you but it may give you a lead. They don't have records for anything pre-1980 but they still can be surprisingly helpful.
It would be pretty easy to weld in the rear door of a crew cab, and get to there. I’d run a digital paint thickness gauge over the area where the rear door edge/opening are on a crew cab, and check that area for fillers.
You can get the gauges for about $25 and up on Amazon. They come in real handy when you are inspecting vehicles for prior damage.
Jigs_n_Fixtures That's true about the outside, but what I wanna see is the inside of the back "doors". What do the door panels look like and can you roll down the window. ?
Judging from these pictures it doesn't look like the rear windows roll down. They look more like the rear window as far as how they're installed.
Now, why would anyone go and change a 4-door crew cab to a 2-door... seems unlikely, but then again, lots of things can happen during 50-some years I suppose.
