Couple more questions...when you made that run....where you using 24 or 48 lbs injectors and what was your fuel pressure? Where you using the booster pump then or did you let the mass air meter handle it?
48 # injectors
40 #fuel pressure
remaped the eek for bigger injectors
otherwise still old tune from last year {2003}
did not last long enuff to push it hard
still waiting for the custom head gasket
Something else interesting, there is a fella in the turbo section with a 6.5 diesel turbo, pushing around 8psi, he is using 19lbs injectors and the stock fuel pressure regulator and a resistor on the coolant sensor wire...thats it...kinda makes me wonder how lean that sucker is running at 8psi....
Anyone have any thoughts on using an FMU, I was thinking about keeping the stock speed density and use an FMU but unsure at the moment, which ratio I should use, ideally the turbo will be off a 7.3 diesel, if anyone is familliar with that unit. I thought that might keep the conditions under no boost normal, but not sure how far I can safely stretch the output of the stock injectors or how much hp that would support. later
can it be done, yes
easy, no
to do it right, a flow bench, dyno,& egt's all cyls
first you need to flow the same to all cyls
than you need to feed the same boost to all cyls
now if you are good you change jets, metering blocks, air bleads,
squirters & any thing else you may find and it may work.
a guy at work had a 85 5.0 [carb] car with a paxton made
469 hp at the wheels a/f on the left side 12.3, a/f right side 11.1
lucky we checked both sides
on efi cars left & right sides are closer
Ok, I cleaned this up a little to get back to the original intent. If I removed a post that you thought was important then I apologize but the thread was getting way to long and out of hand. If you see posts still in that do not fit then PM me the post number and I will check it out.
Lets keep this thread on the original intent of turbo questions. Any off-topic or out of order posts will be removed. Since this is more of a technical thread please keep opinionated posts out of it.
Thanks for your help and lets try to make a very informative and useful thread.
i have a carb, 300. my question is, i am geting a motor with like 20,000 on it. if i do more research an decide to turbo my new motor, will it hold up with the stock components, or will it have to be built to handle it. can i just run low boost, like 3-4 psi and double up my head gasket????? How much would this probaly coast, what kind of power gains can i expect, and is it still psoible to have it as my daily driver???? thank you guys so much, you guys are like gods with these trucks
You can turbo charge a stock 300 and it could be your daily driver.
Never double up head gaskets.
