Heater Core Leaking

I have a 57 f800, and I just replaced all of the belts and hoses. I noticed however coolant leaking on the floorboard from the heater core. I looked at the shop manual, and realized I had the hoses backwards. From the block to the top of the heater core and from the bottom of the heater core to the water pump. Would that have caused it to leak? All of the select air heater components have been removed before I got it. I would like to replace it but don’t really know what I’m looking for. The control panel on the dash is there, but the cable that goes to some sort of valve on the passenger firewall (I assume) is just there, the valve on the passenger firewall is missing! Thanks for your assistance!!

1957/60 F100/1100: There are two different heaters, fresh air and recirculating.

The recirculating heater has a manually operated heater water shutoff valve. You have to raise the hood to open or close it.

The fresh air heater has a cable controlled heater water valve that is spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose.

B8C-18495-A .. Fresh Air Heater Water Valve - Located at front fender apron / Obsolete

All 1957/60 trucks except B500/750 School Bus and P100/500 Parcel Delivery // 1961/64 F100/1100 // 1963/64 N/NT500/1000.

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS might have 1 = 913-220-5746. This source rarely updates their inventory, so may not have it.

LINCOLN-MERCURY OLD PARTS STORE in Clearwater FL has 2 = 727-445-7551.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B7TT-18476-A .. Fresh Air & Recirculating Heater Core / Obsolete

1957/60 F100/1100.

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any. Radiator shops can recore heater cores. Also look at ebay, Hemmings Motor News, Car & Parts and etc.

Make sure if you find one on ebay, the B7TT-18476-A part number matches, but pay no attention to the applications the sellers list.

Most ebay sellers haven't a single clue what parts fit, even if they're NOS w/a part number printed on the package.

So I have the heater core repaired and have a water valve for the magic air. Can anyone tell me where and how I route the hoses I have one that comes from the water pump to the heater core and one that come from the engine block on the passenger side. Where does the water valve fit into this equation. Thanks!!

I have a 1960 F100 with a 223 with a different location for the on/off valve for the heater.

Doug

The valve is connected to the thermostat housing.

I have seen those manual style valves. They get the job done. I don't really drive to much after it gets cold as they start with the salt business.
