well I'm back with more radio issues, just received a truck am/fm radio for are 77 F-350; a lot shorter overall BUT I can't seem to install it because AGAIN it wont allow me to fit the dash bezel flush, almost like need shaft extensions to make it work.Has anyone had this much trouble? thanks again.
I have never seen those shaft covers on a truck radio before. I would take them off and see how it fits. Carefully loosen them up and remove them. The fine thread shafts strip very easy, so make sure they are clean....like spray brake or carb cleaner tooth brush clean. Do not let that stuff run down inside the radio either, and for sure do not get it inside the passenger side shaft for sure. I am sure that spray stuff will kill the rubber band belt on that side.
I seen you other thread...yes the radio goes BEHIND the metal mount plate. And then one star washer and nut per side. And then the back support bracket. Then the instrument cluster/dash bezel, then the radio bezel/face plate. And if you have room but another nut on each shaft. But usually the inner and outer ***** hold it in place just fine.
I will have someone help me post pictures tomorrow, the radio I have has no spacers on the shafts so it mounts flush which is why it protrudes too much hitting the bezel. I see it should be near flush with the mounting plate. Looks like that's my issue, that's why I've been trying to find shaft extentions
Ah the red box is what I am talking about to be removed on each side. All the radios I have seen do NOT have that part. These being on the shafts as I understand and see it, prevent the radio from coming forward enough to get the radio bezel on flush with the black box edge, and get the inner and outer ***** on, if I am understanding you right.
I know when installing a OEM radio you have to have a nut on the shaft (on back side of the bracket) so you can set/adjust the needed overall radio depth, then lock the radio in place with a nut on (on the shaft again), but on the other side of the metal mount bracket. Then install the radio bezel, and use a nut to hold it. And then install the *****. Some times it take a few tries to get the depth right, at least for me anyway.
But what do I know, I put a 2 post Craig cassette player in my red truck. And a old school under dash 40 W amp/10 band equalizer. BOOM BOOM.
