I know this may not be the best forum for this, but I could not decide which other to use
I have a 91 150, I wish to put on a brush guard, problem is the only ones I see on trucks around here are the utterly useless ones mounted to the bumper, they are real thin and flimsy, my roomate has one on his Bronco. I want something that mounts to the frame and is nice and thick, a tubular would be best, as I need it to be able to support a winch, I have not been able to find one....the local shop said they think they know of one and it cost roughly 450 bucks, and I have a friend at work who custom builds brush guards off of a heavy duty bumper, teh huge angular ones, for a rather extensive price, but they are sturdy for anything.
Any insite on where to look for one or if one even exists would be helpful thanks.
Warn makes a winch mount with integral "brush guards" called the Combo. It mounts to the frame using the stock bumper mounting points, and it's designed to fit over the stock bumper.
I have a Combo mount on my F250. Check my gallery pics to see what it looks like.
They used to make them in both chrome and black, but now they are available only in black for '80-'91 F-series trucks.
They retail for about $425 new, but you can find used ones a lot cheaper.
Does that thing replace the bumper? or mount through it or around it? and how much does it cost to have soemthig chromed...my 02 has the stricly monochromatic look, the 4x4 needs chrome though.....
And lets ay the e9000 that means 9k lbs it can support or what? While that is the smallest I see, is there any reason at all for an off-roader to have something like the 12k winch?
it's the weight of your truck, the winch needs to be rated to pull 1 and 1/2 times the weight of the truck. my truck weight about 5200 lbs so 9000 lb winch is just enough. also depending on you off-roading you may need more.
this is true but you can use ****** blocks as well.....on average 8K-9K is the best bang for the buck...I have an 8Klb winch on the front of the truck in my sig. and I have never had any problems....and i am still working on a couple of ****** blocks

it's all in the money man.....i would love to have a 12,000Warn but I am in college and my finances will not allow me to get one right now. I have been scraping for what I do have.
I don't know what part of the country you are from, but I live in Texas, and most people with trucks have guards. I have owned two a ranchhand and a frontier. Depending on if you want a full bumper replacement or one that goes over the factory bumper the guards have a reciever tube on the front so you can have a winch you can use in the front or back. Another I have seen is Thunderstruck that is just as sharp, but probably harder to find it is made in Lamesa, TX while ranchhand is made in Boerne, TX and is easier to find on the web. Good luck in finding one you like.
Jimmy Dean,
You can check out my bumpers for ideas. (check my gallery)
I made mine out of 3/8" plate and sch. 40 tube. Cost me around $30 - Houses a Milemarker E9000
Made a matching rear one also-
Heck, I was checking prices of these things and they wanted over $800 for a front bumper. Ouch!
