Okay so I recently purchased a 78 f150. On the vin plate on the door sill the color spot is blank and it has a 6 digit DSO code, meaning the truck was a special order. The DSO code is 522555, now I know what the first 2 digits mean but the last 4 mean special order and I’m trying to figure out what was specially ordered and what paint color my truck is.
If you can find your build sheet, usually in seat springs. Other locations, behind door panels, under floor covering. They are hit and miss. If it's a non-Ford color, it will be noted on bottom of build sheet and the paint supplier code usually. Ford paid the workers to read the build sheets but not to throw them away so they stuffed them wherever was convenient. That was my understanding and I have found non stock paint suppliers on a 78 and 79 Ford on the build sheets. When I worked in a body shop.
