I’m considering purchasing an F250 and I’m just curious what year Ford first introduced the pro trailer backup assist to the Super Duties? I think it was 2020 model year, but just looking for confirmation.
I don't know when they were first introduced but would not put a high priority on having it with a truck purchase. I was super pumped to try it out on my new truck. I have stopped using it and go back to the way I learned. don't get me wrong, I am no trailer backing expert, either way

Thanks. I have it on my Expedition and it’s very helpful for backing my TT into tight campsites, so I’d like to have it on any truck I end up purchasing.

I tried it out when I first got the truck to see how it worked. Haven't used it since.
Anybody tried this with a > 40' fifth wheel? I have a harness for this that came with the truck that's supposed to be installed on the RV somewhere. Just never bothered to research how the system works. Is it actually helpful at all? I think side/rear cameras on the RV would help more.

A friend of mine has it on his F150, raves about it. For giggles I tried it out...I can't stand it. Give me mirrors and a steering wheel and I can put any trailer just about anywhere. With that thing I couldn't even back up a utility trailer.
I used to turn around a 35', then a 42' fifth wheel in my old driveway, and park them between my house and garage (about a 10, maybe 11' opening) - and I had semi drivers tell me they couldn't park their rig in my driveway to unload it, they had to do it at the road.
Im pretty disappointed with the system on my 2022 250. Any bit of angle between the truck and trailer and it doesnt see the trailer anymore... Not very helpful up here in the mountains...
After having owned the truck for nearly 18 months, life cut me some slack and I was finally able to tow the 5th wheel for the first time recently. I found all the towing tech features of the truck to be helpful, especially the cameras.
PTBA, is an asset, but not a be-all-end-all. If you don't know the basics of backing a trailer, it will be of no value to you . But I did find it helpful. My usage was a mix of automation and old school. Practice will be helpful. A more fair review could be given after our next trip, as my right side mirror was obscured by an enormous shrub/bush and I could not see down the right side of the truck, while backing a right turn into the campsite. PTBA or not you have to be able to see.
Many things will come from practice: how much angle, when to start the turn and when to release the ****. First time out I guess I did OK. Overall I am happy with the PTBA and elated with the truck in general.
I do really love the cab mounted camera for lining up the hitch and pin box. Nailed it every time.
I'm also curious about the effectiveness of this with a 40' 5th wheel. I think I saw that the PTBA was only useful for trailers up to ~30 feet. I got a 450 specifically to haul "bigger", so if the PTBA can't handle it, there isn't much point in setting it up.
I suspect there isn't much point, regardless, but I would like to know if there's a software limitation to the logic over a certain length.
If you're looking into it for a 2023, skip it if you can. It's currently holding up any orders that have tow tech or include it as standard equipment...Lariat Ultimate and above. Also as some others have said, it doesn't work as well as when they demo it. Mine always lost sight of the sticker and freaked out. I hardly ever used it when I had it.
Thanks. I actually picked up my 2022 450 Limited in December, but I'm just now getting to a point where I can try this system. The cool part is that they seem to have done away with the sticker. So...yay?
