Old school tach

Is there a way to wire in an old school tach on my 95 F150? Mine is an XL that did not come with a factory tach. I would need a signal wire and to know the pulse setting if it can be done.

You can wire into negative lead at your coil.
Most aftermarket tachs have a selector switch for 4,6 or 8 cyl

You can also just buy the factory gauge cluster with a tach. It should be already wired up to work. Just plug and play.
If you wanna go aftermarket, the only thing the tach cares about is power, ground, and negative coil wire. There's a switch or jumpers on the back for cylinder count as mentioned above.

Just research year breaks for OE tachs on 92+ trucks. 92-93 are same. 94-97 I have no idea due to OBD2 transition.

87-91 all swap

Thanks guys. It's been a while since I played with a tach. I'm definitely going aftermarket. When I used to wire them into outboard motors I always had to find the pulse setting of the motor to get them to read correctly. That might be because the outboards ran coil on plug with a stator. This sounds much easier. I'll let you know how it works out.
