So, I think the Vacuum Modulator is bad as I get a high RPM hard shift into 2nd from 1st. I cannot for the life of me locate it on the transmission. My Door Code for the Trans is T which I believe is C6 (truck has Auto OD). Now, I do not see a line to follow from that 3rd firewall spot (empty) and not sure on the manifold tee. For all I know it is completely removed. Does anyone have a picture of where I may find this on the Transmission so I may replace and be certain it's even hooked up?
You need to make sure the fluid level is correct and clean. Because the pan is so hard to remove, I just use my suction gun to suck a couple of qt's out and fill with new stuff. But mine hasn't had any issues.
EDIT; For OP. The AOD has no vacuum modulator. There is a cable from a lever on the transmission shift shaft to a lever on your carburetor. This (TV) Throttle Valve Cable should be neither tight nor loose. A misadjusted cable can cause your hard shift symptom.
EDIT: For MaxC. The transmission mount does "look" a little rough in your photo. Place a jack under the tail shaft and see if it lifts off the cross member.
If you want to drop the pan, unbolting the transmission mount and raising the rear will give you easy access to the 10mm bolts along the back of the pan.

The Mercon V is the correct fluid.
Thanks but I don't notice any movement in my AOD from that mount. Mine shifts fine. I was just posting photos for the OP.

Thank you
Sounds like the cable is a little too tight. But tighter is better than too loose. You do not want a too early soft shift. You should be able to release the cable outer sheath at the carb or throttle body, use your hand to open the throttle wide open (engine off) and while holding the throttle wide open, lock the sheath back in place.
AOD does NOT have a vacuum modulator valve, your applications are wrong as is the shift lever display.
AOD introduced in 1981 F100/250 302, the 300 I-6 was added in 1983 // 1984 E150/250 300/302 // 1985 Bronco 302
It's P-R-N (O) not D
I stated that I have not owned a vehicle with an AOD so I wasn’t sure about the modulator. I also mentioned that it could be that the cable is out of adjustment.
Hello.
Awesome everyone, thank you. So, not have the VM is a good reason I couldn't find it
I do see that cable to the carb though. I will adjust it just a touch.
