Been planning a 1000 mile round trip to pick something up out of state and ol’ reliable (‘00 zf6 with 243k) acted up on me tonight.
Some strange symptoms. First it died driving out my development like someone pulled a plug, very similar to when my CPS went this fall. But this time, no SES light. Started right back up and it happen 2 more times. I left to head home from where I was, a few mile drive, got on the highway and I’m cruising along around 60 and suddenly I have 0 throttle response as I apply more to climb a slight grade, then it sort of comes back and begins to rev to the moon! Zf6 truck so I shut her down, push in clutch and she starts and is back to normal.
I pulled out Forescan tonight to run the codes. No CPS code like last time when it was stalling. This time, P0473, P0475, and P0232. The EBPV is long gone so I think P0475 explains the connector being unplugged. However, P0232 is new. Truck has newer T-500 and IPR was replaced at the same time. Looking for some insight. TIA.
Makes sense. Over the last few months, the fuel pump has become louder when it primes the system with the key in the on position. I’m curious if they get noisy before they start to go south.
I’m also still baffled as to why the throttle pedal went dead, I was cruising at 60 and I took my foot off and it just stayed there. Not sure if this is part of the problem or another.
Had the truck out today and was looking at where the Hydra chip goes into the PCM and it seemed a little loose. Drove it around a bit and no stalling but it does seem lacking some power when climbing hills.
Do these fuel pumps get louder before they go south? In the last few weeks it has become very audible as it primes. I really need to get a fuel pressure gauge on the truck. The tank has not been dropped either in it’s life as far as I’m aware so there’s probably a chance it’s creating restriction to some degree.
I second what our Finland and Squatch friends said. The pump sounds terrible for some reason and a loose Hydra chip can lead to electrical gremlins or PCM sudden death.
At the moment I don’t have time to source and setup a fuel pressure gauge. I’m planning on removing the inlet line coming from the tank and running some fuel line into a jug of diesel to see if the pump quiets down. I’m also going to check how fast it fills the fuel bowl for curiosity sake.
