I have the opportunity to purchase a 4.9 in my area.
The owner says it was a good runner but it has been sitting on a engine stand for a few years.
Am I crazy to be concerned about the 4.9 sitting on a stand for that long? I wonder what gravity does to a 560 lb block of that length when it’s supported only on one side for so long.
Does anyone else think that that could cause some sort of warpage / flex?
Gravity is not an issue. Moisture and corrosion are the first questions. The basic condition, is it buttoned up or open, what all is included and can he start it on the stand?
X 2 on the moisture and corrosion....
Was it stored in a garage out of the elements or sitting under a oak tree with a piece of plastic for cover , or tin storage shed.
I looked at one that was stored in a utility shed and told the guy I would buy it but he had to pull the head first. main reason, the plugs were left out which was a clue for me to look further.
Well, the cyls were totally rusted. Maybe could clean up with bore but not 100% sure so I passed on what sounded like a good deal at first.

Thanks for the advice.
Turns out it was stored in a dry place and all sealed up. The seller was great - he even threw in the stand for free.
