Extra light fixture
I have a 1971 F100… while I had the dash components out cleaning and adjusting the heater cables, I was admiring my new leds in the heater controls and radio and located a “floating” light fixture in the opening from the gauge cluster… near the cigarette lighter…. It works with light switch on.. only has a power wire and is grounded by the “shield” that covers 1/2 the little bulb…. I’ve seen posts that is it to illuminate the cigarette lighter or also to illuminate the ash tray… I can’t figure out where or how it attaches to anything…
the bulb shield has two fold out that should slide into a matting surface..
if anyone has a photo of the light installed it would be great! I can’t get the gauge cluster put back until I figure this out…
Thanks,
Ben
And this 72 master wiring diagram shows it in there as well. https://www.fordification.com/tech/w..._F100-F350.jpg
you are right.. while taking some photos I located the slot in the bottom of the cigarette lighter sleeve…. The fixture snapped in and lights it up great.. added a couple other photos of the new leds.. thanks for the prompting on confirmation…
I bent the bulb housing open slightly to allow the led light….
Thanks!
Ben
I was thinking that too… but the fixture fit in the lighter.. there is no way to attach it to the ash tray… not like either one will be used… the light is only to put the “lighter” back in the hole… no light shows when the lighter is in place…
I dont think my 81 has any light for either?
I use the lighter socket for the phone charger and the tray holds nick nacks LOL
