Hello, I was wanting to put a 6.4 starter on my 06 6.0 and I also need a third battery for auxiliary and for an inverter, I was wondering how you would wire in a 3rd battery to be charged by alternator and give the 6.4 starter more juice
In parallel with the other two batteries. You shouldn't need a third battery to spin a starter, heck two batteries is overkill most of the time, only time you ever really need two batteries is in the cold months of winter. If you want a third battery for inverter usage, then install a DC to DC battery charger (something like the example linked below, there are plenty of other brand names out there too) and keep it separated from the trucks starting batteries.
Agreed, you won't need a 3rd battery to power the starter.
I run a Victron DC-DC charger similar to what is posted above for my camper batteries. You can also use something simpler like a Blue Seas ACR (Automatic Charging Relay) which I have run in several vehicles since about 2010. It automatically isolates the house battery from the starter batteries so you can power accessories off the house battery without the worry of draining your starter batteries. Yet, when it senses a charging source, it will open so the house battery will charge off the alternator.
