PCM replacement

I pulled my PCM yesterday and there was a loose capacitor(?) rattling around inside. I need to order a replacement.

I have a F2TF-12A650-NA. When I looked at Autozone and other parts stores, the only one available for sale is "with California Emissions".
Will that affect performance/operation? I see other companies on ebay that sell PCMs that you need to provide your VIN for. Those are about double the price.

Can anyone recommend where to find a good PCM for my '91 E350 with 5.8L V8?

Cheap is good. Quality is better.

Thanks

"Cheap" is NOT good especially when it comes to a PCM!

There are a number of reputable PCM "rebuilders" who'll rehab your existing part but as you mention the better services will be more thorough and naturally cost more. Those I've seen over the years promise quick turn around times and offer and guarantee/warranty of some sort. If there's an advantage to using someone from eBay is you're able to see how well they perform via their feedback from actual users.

Sadly I don't recall the builders I've checked as its been too long and in the end I didn't need their services.

At almost 30+ years old your PCM might need a bit more than a quick refresh so be prepared to pay for good service.

Good luck with this!

A lot of computer/ tech guys can resolder that back to the board. I had a pcm get wet in my 99. The corrosion caused a capacitor to lose its contact. I ordered what I needed on Amazon and had mine fixed locally.
Or buy one from a salvage yard. According to ford tech makuloco Ford techs can reprogram a salvage yard pcm. I had to use a salvage yard pcm until mine was fixed. From my experience if you find one from a van that’s same yr, and equipped the same it works. My speedometer was accurate as well since the donor van had the same axle ratio.

and there is Diesel tech Chattanooga I know they repair a lot of 7.3 diesel pcms. They probably do gassers as well. They are highly recommended on the 7.3 forum.

Are you sure you do not have cali emissions anyway?
What is the problem with yoor truck anyway?
Does it stumble, miss of not run?.
The cali processor will work but might have a check engine lamp on for some system your truck does not have
1991 E350 is a dinosaur system anyway and I doubt you will have much trouble unless you live in an I/M county
EVP and EGR codes and backpressure valves things like that
Also Thermactor systems were different so codes for the TAB and TAD
No big deal
Put a card over the light and call in ten years
