Fuse box

I am back needing further help from all of you smart guys out there.

My original fuse box has a couple of broken fuse holders and has been modified with an external fuse for the stop light/turn signal fuse. As soon as I put a new fuse in the fuse connector and turn on the blinker it blows the fuse. I've spent hours checking for a short on the appropriate wires and can't seem to locate one. I figured that I'd just buy a new fuse box with the wire harness attached. I have searched everywhere I can think of to locate one, to no avail. I have found some aftermarket harnesses that you need to splice each wire and looks way too complicated for me to mess with, besides having the newer type fuses. I'd like to keep the original fuse style (glass) and not have to splice every wire in the truck.

Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Brad

Dead short in the column or turn signal switch. Start there. But, first, buy the factory shop manuals, and go to Fordification and print out some wiring diagrams, or else purchase them from one of the usual suspects.

Buy a lighted test circuit breaker, connect it to the suspect circuit then start disconnecting and reconnecting wires until the circuit breaker stops cycling.

ibuzzard,

Thank you for the feedback. I just replaced the turn signal switch. I didn't want to pull the steering wheel again, but I guess that's what's next. I do have all of the wiring diagrams and have used them extensively to diagnose other electrical issues.

Thanks,
Brad

Hopefully you used a made in USA switch and not the chineseium one. Before you pull the wheel check your pin outs on the two plugs going to the switch. There are color changes there that can be confusing.
Here is something I scribbled when I was removing the harness from my truck. Since you didn't remove the wires from the harness plug maybe this will help or maybe it will just be confusing.

Crop Duster,

As always, that you for your feedback. The diagram will help. I have the manual wiring diagrams, but this will certainly help narrow down my search .

I'll let you know what I figure out whenever I get back to it.

instig8r63,

Thank you for your comment. I do not have a test circuit breaker. If I can't get it figured out then I will get one and attempt your suggestion.

Thanks for your time.
