I'm looking at a '49 F3 that has been equipped with a lift gate. Anyone out there know if the tailgate on an F3 is the same size as an F1 or F2? I've been searching online for one but not having much luck.
The F1 tailgate is smaller than the F2/3 gates and won't fit the larger bed. F2/3 gates are the same. AFAIK, they are not reproduced and difficult to find in good condition used. These trucks were used as trucks, and usually pretty hard back then. If you just need a tailgate and don't necessarily need the script logo, the 53+ block letter version is/has been reproduced, although it appears out of stock at Carpenters.
One of our SD members I believe has a tailgate or two available, but shipping to CA might not be cheap. I can ask him to check in if you want to investigate it. But finding one in CA would be in your best interest. Stu

Hi Stu,
You're probably right. I just realized there's an "All Ford" scrap yard about a mile from my house. My neighbor used to own it before he moved far away from CA. (smart man). I don't know if they'll have anything like this but it's worth a call.
