Hey guys, been reading the forum a while but new to posting so bare with me. I've got a '76 F150, 360FE w/ the NP435, and NP205 t-case. It's all stock with the exception of a holley carb and dual exhaust. Down to the issues though. When I bought the truck my dash lights didn't work and I finally got around to changing the headlight switch to see if that helped. In that process, I disconnected the battery, as one does, and after the swap reconnected it but missed a small wire that went onto the positive terminal. Fast forward a day or two, blew a fuse and my turn signals nor hazards didn't work. Forgoing past experience of the internet saying to check the fuse first, I swapped the turn signal switch in the steering column. And when that didn't work, so I checked the fuse. And now 2 blown fuses later I found my loose wire that I believe was my issue on the short at least. So now after a 3rd fuse and a retightened wire, my turn signals don't work again. Replacing the fuses worked the first two times but now nothing. Is there something I might be missing? Or is it possible I got an already faulty turn signal switch that just failed. Side note, after the new turn signal switch install, the hazards didn't work but turn signals did after the fuse got replaced, which may have just been my bad electrical skills but hence why I'm asking the questions. I appreciate the help in advance
Keep it simple is how it was taught to trouble shoot electrical. First, before you changed the turn signal switch did you check flasher? If flasher is good( which can cause a short depending on how it went out) then start working back. Looking for crossed or pinched wires, amiss connected wire and it could be as simple as a screw that is to long or in wrong place.
I haven't checked the flasher, nor can I seem to find it. I haven't seen any pinched wires. But something weird that I forgot to mention in the initial post is that once that first fuse blew, my brake lights didn't work either. After replacing the fuse (the first 3 times), they worked but now I'm back to square one without brake lights either.
Check for power and ground AT the switch going in and going out on the corresponding wires for if you have hazards or left turn etc etc.
If you do have power at the switch and going out, then simply trace the wires to the best of your ability
That's my 2 cents, under-inflated prices I'm raising it to 4 cents.
