I saw a post today in a facebook group about an extremely rare 66F100 with a police interceptor option. It is supposedly in a big collection. It's a great looking restoration and is supposed to have come from the factory with a 428 PI engine and 3 on the tree (a T-5 has been installed). I would like to call BS on this, but I have learned to never say never when it comes to Ford. What say ye?
I don't know enough to say. Benefit of the doubt, I think people use "factory" and "Dealer Installed" interchangeably sometimes.
In general, if the VIN plate does not back it up, it's not what it is, but I'm sure strange exceptions could be made for people with enough influence. Documentation of some kind would be necessary for proof. Words that were typed by some random person for a plaque aren't that.
If it is a genuine police truck that came to be, one way or another, that is pretty neat.
What most people consider to be the Ford Police Interceptor 4V aluminum intake manifold had a casting number of C7AE-9425-F. If that's what this truck has they weren't cast in 1966 so you wouldn't find it on a 1966 model year vehicle as far as have ever seen. Also, we would need to see a picture of the original warranty plate. With a 3 on the tree originally it was probably a 6 cylinder 240 from the factory. Just a guess, but real doubtful they'd put a light duty 3 speed behind a 428 PI. There is no valid engine code for a 428 in 1966 F100 so the engine code should be blank and a 6 digit DSO number as well. It could be, Ford did have a couple of their biggest engines in a couple of trucks back in the day. But, odds are slim.
TA455HO, I don't know where you got this idea, "With a 3 on the tree originally it was probably a 6 cylinder 240 from the factory." My 66F100 came with a 352 and 3 on the tree and I have seen many other V8 slicks with 3 on the tree.
I said it was a guess. I'm very well aware of what came in front of a 3 speed. Just saying I doubt a 428 PI meant for police duty would have come with that. But, all we'd need to see is the original warranty plate. Is it available to view? If not my interest drops to zero. Don't take any of that personally.

Simple, if it was legitimate, the practice was to order the truck with the standard engine ( in this case 240) and remove it, then install the special order engine. This was done with the '63 XL with 427 above. The key is to see the warranty plate as TA455HO mentioned. IF there is a DSO number, something special is on this vehicle, but unfortunately, it does not describe specifically what is special on this vehicle. If he has a 428, good for him. Some items look suspicious in photo, 66 pickups never had door handle plates and inside arm rests installed in wrong location on door. It might be a total fraud, but, I'll stop till more documentation is revealed.
The copy of the MPC that I have access to, an on-line sample which covers pickups, econolines and trucks up to W1000, shows engine code "P" as the 401 4V Super Duty engine or a Cummins NTC-300. The 428 isn't on the list.
As a police vehicle, it would have made more sense for it to have a C6 automatic like all other police vehicles of that era. And according to one old source I have, the PI 428 had hydraulic lifters.

But no other vehicle with a 428PI ever came with a 3.03, three speed manual trans. That should be a giveaway.
So, what would the police have used this truck for? Pursuit? Unlikely wouldn't you think? For me anytime someone promotes anything as "rare" it throws up a red flag. But stranger things have come to light. I call BS until the facts can be shown..

That truck is cool and was clearly modified, but not by the factory. I call BS
Do you think a police depot would buy it with all them "up grades" like the big motor and what about the hub caps?
Even the normal police cars are bottom of the line base model with the police package installed.
It also dose not have a spot light or light on the roof? Thought all of the police cars had them back then?
I dont know that much of your year trucks but I think I would call BS but it is a kool looking truck.

I was recently at a local machine shop dropping off a block and heads and having a chat with the owner. He had heard me pull up in the slick and asked about it, then proceeds to tell me about his 66 he picked up recently. Got a 427 in it he says, says he thinks it's original because it has the 427 badges on the fenders. We go take a look, it has badges (We don't need no stinking badges!) and an FE under the hood.
I didn't crawl under to look at the block but being that he owns an automotive machine shop, that does well, I figured he knew how to tell what motor it was (I hope). Didn't bother schooling him about Ford truck options, cause I didn't want to **** him off before he did my work. That's all.
