1985 E350 Heater Core
I have a 1985 E350 460ci with a bad heater core. It has a high output heater and factory air. I am not sure how to get the housing loose to do a replacement.
Attached are relevant photos. The bolts holding the heater housing have the heads in the engine compartment so the nuts to be removed are under the dash and a few are quite high. Does the dash need to be removed to loosen these nuts?"
I really appreciate any help you can give on this project.

Below is a Ford heater core with the part number I used from the parts list. I have bought one or two times from these folks before and had no problems but I can not guarantee anyone! You will want to try to pressure test it before installing though.. Or vacuum test.

According to the parts list that i believe is the correct parts, you also need a heater core seal. Ford Part # E3UZ-18658-B
You might want to shop around though as the one listed below is a bit hi in my opinion but the only other choice on Ebay has a lower rep.. Yours might be good if its still in tact but it is very important to seal around the heater core. You might be able to make your own.

Here is a link to the Ford CD manual that applies to your Econoline and is the manual I used to get this info from. You should invest in one when you can as it is a complete repair manual designed for your exact year E350!

I got most all of the diagrams and instructions from the manual I posted a link to above. This is one of the best manuals you will find.

Another good one is the EVTM ie electrical, vacuum troubleshooting manual also produced for Ford. This one is only about $17

One of the diagrams and the parts list came from a master parts catalog. It is not necessary but helps when looking for factory replacement parts you cant find the part numbers anywhere else.
looking at the instructions on how to remove and reinstall your heater core, it appears to be very similar to you 78 E100. Notice in the install instructions it states install the 5 mounting screws from inside... So there are just the 5 screws. Be sure to get the case seal to firewall in correctly. I had mine a little off and had to go back and re so it.
So you should be able to do this job fairly easy!
PS if the heater hoses are old then now is the time to replace them.
