Thumbs up Injector time!

Sooooooooo...

Some of you chaps know I figured I lost a hole or injectors really crapped recently. @Jarrett Campbell resent his comp tester so I can test those when the covers are off. I will gamble on a set of sticks over a bottom end as I can always reuse them on a fresh bottom end and the 4.9 is nearly on the street. Many of us have been thinking what injectors to run as the truck is a dually with a manual trans.

Mods are best to memory:

910s and Smith Bro rods
Melling LPOP and Adrenaline HPOP
Reman TP38, billet wheel, stock turbine, 1.0 housing
Bellowed uppipes, typical Diamond eye 4" exhaust
Mark F e-fuel kit, Walbro now but probably go back to a Boosch SD unit as Diesel fuel rated.
Southbend OFE clutch kit, yes it is a bit spicy!

I guess that is about it. Probably more I am forgetting. In any event, plan is to use a KC drop in at some point. The 63/70 or the 63/73 with a 0.84 AR, turbine size depends on power I guess. Initial plans were the 160/30s but more and move been looking into the larger ones after speaking with folks. The 205/30s apparently have about the same smoke output on cold starts as the 160/30s but the 205s can be turned down quite a bit, to what extent...I do not know. I just need a fresh set in the truck and rather have a set I can tune down or up as my needs grow.

Never plan to T4 swap as not going to reinvent the wheel and I like going against the SOP. Not trying to sent land speed records, hope to roll out around 400rwhp at some point.

Thoughts? Opinions? Laughter?

is this a tow pig? a little bit of everything? What gear ratio and tire size?(forgive me if some of this is In your signature, I’m on a cell phone)

fwiw, and I hope he doesn’t mind me saying this, when I called bitterroot to order injectors for my 2001, I was fairly set on having him build me some 200/80s. He talked me into 238/80s and said they are his favorite ‘all-around’ injector size. You just mentioning having an injector that you can tune-up or tune-down made me think of that. Because that is a size that you can definitely have a pretty wide range of usable power with. From learning from quite a few different sources , I believe the 160/30s will be within 20-30 peak hp of 200/30s. You know the hybrids will be easier on oil, which could be a factor depending on how healthy your hpop is.

Thumbs up

No worries. 4.10:1 30.5" tyres that are 245/75R16...they are 0.1" taller than OE 215/85R16. Adrenaline HPOP has maybe 20k on it. Really do not tow much, max legal limit is 10k I think so do not plan much past it if I did.

I steered away from 205/80 or 238/80, hell or my original idea of 238/100. It is an ECLB dually manual, I can shift better than most with a fresh trans and short kit, but still limited by that not to mention the 7.3 heads. I owned a high 12 sec 6.4 since new pre total, not trying to think it will be anywhere near as quick.

ALL opinions and thoughts wanted.

Have you looked at the turbo/injector spreadsheet in the SD forum? Lots of good reading about what people like and do t like about their injectors.

I am kibd of partial to the 160s. They are easy to tune, the truck will run them even without a chip and a healthy HPOP will feed them with no problem.

Our trucks are almost twins! They both have 6 wheels and a stick to wiggle around.

My heap has Rosewood hybrids. 205/30s i believe. Work great doesnt smoke unless i get on it. I have a taller tire and shorter gear so yours should be much more peppier

Since you have an adrenaline, I would say 180/30 and a kc 63/70 .84

Hmm being able to run without a chip is a good point, I hadn't thought of that. I was just about dead set on 238/80's too. Damnit.

Are chips pretty reliable? I've always directly tuned the ECU or replaced the ECU with one I could program. Never messed with chips before.

Very. Just gotta clean the connections real good and it’s rare a person will have a problem. As for injectors Eric knows my opinion. Bigger is better (to an extent) hybrids really seem the way to go just because of the wide range of tuning you have available just for one set. But I always like to have extra on the table. 160/30s would honestly be plenty for almost anyones needs. But why limit yourself?

I have that old TS6 that was reflashed by Gearhead. So, yes I will probably have to do the Hydra leap or just reburn this. Not sure yet, been chatting with seijirou about reflashing this old chip.

Tow mainly once per year, sometimes twice. Not always hooked to something as many of you guys are on here. I know even 160/30s will put more pep in the step, but seems to midrange is where the 205s shine then taper off up top down to 180-190cc area.
