Someone who knows something for real please call me. I'm a 60-year-old woman who's disabled and I'm having to rebuild a carburetor again after I bought one put it on was ready to get help with some vacuum lines and the guy took the carburetor apart before he understood what the job was. I can't type as much as there is to say, I need someone who's a qualified mechanic who understands I only have a few dollars to give up to come here and make this damn van run so I can go home give up my dog and die with cancer I don't want to die in Seattle
I am by far no carburetor specialist unless it is my push mower but before anyone can help you, you need to let them know what you have..
What year
What van,, E??
What engine and transmission.
2 barrel or 4 barrel carburetor
It is a job that you have to pay attention to when rebuilding it on a bench let alone trying to tell someone what to do online. There are some very good videos online that might show you what you need to do.. I could help you with that if I knew which carburetor you have.. If you just bought it then the box should have info on it as well a there should be a little triangle like tag on one cornet of the carburetor with the model number .
I am an expert and maples01 sounds like he is too but that will not help her
She just needs some expert help in Seattle
Even a Carter YF1a is no trouble once you've rebuilt a few hundred
I am Thinking that is what it is if it was over his head because the autolite 2bbl is simple
The tag number is probably long gone Annaleigh. No phone number either
There is always a guy like me or maples around an Autozone somewhere
She just needs some resources and to ask for help up there. There must be a few FTE guys in WA worth their salt

There are guys all over hard up for cash that are good for simple auto repairs, but you also gotta be careful not to be too trusting, could find someone at the parts store, I don't know the time shade tree mechanics go there tho, a guy I went to school with does automotive work from his home. Hope she can find someone, but if not, she can tackle it herself, youtube has some really helpful info, lots of how to videos.
My older van had the much simpler 2100, thank god, I had to pull it and disassemble it to remove the fine rust, thanks to ethanol in a 40 year old tank, required cleaning out every other month, if I had one of those I'd have killed myself, I'd not want to fool with that more than once every 5 years, I can say even 2 filters won't stop the fine stuff from entering the carb settling in the bottom, even getting under the jets, I appreciate injection now.
He opened the echoke, bent the hangars, screwed the idle screws in so far it may be ruined.
And all I asked him to do was adjust the idle screws when I started it. He went off on some tangent about you had to adjust the E choke 1st blah blah blah 5 hours later hes got my carburetor unassembled externally. The iavc, tps, etc. All the stuff it took me 3 months to order and 3 weeks to put on.
muscle cramps limit me
The metering screw must not be screwed in tight, wallows out the opening, but the idle screw should be fine, why would he bend the hanger, what was he trying to do? The choke just turns, do it a tab at a time, it has lines to guide you, one side is rich, the other lean.

Do you know how hard it is trying to find this stuff on just the 86 model
Easier than the 73 I had, but yeah, I struggled for years with a rusty gas tank, as they were completely unavailable, and I am unable to modify something to fit. I bought a Chinese copy of an Autolite for mine, throttle plate was worn, vacuum leak, pleasantly surprised with it, was from ebay, it was hit last year, I replaced it with an 89 shorty, oh the rust was a nightmare, I had to replace the entire front floor, fiberglassed the rear, that model year does have quite a bit available, but you have to order it, nothing is ever in stock. I bet you can find one of those carburetors on ebay like I did, could solve your troubles, my big six is injected, the capacitors in the ecm melt down, I got that to look forward to, but I do like the 300, they are heavy duty engines, very durable, and simple, once you get a good carb on it, you should be good.
You gotta love those YF1A's
The throttle shaft was probably loose prior to any overhaul or repair
So I could justify selling her another carb from step 1
That said you can always overhaul it anyway and take your chances with idle quality

Almost would put one of the older iron base ones on it, they looked like a much simpler design.
