GVWR DOWN GRADE HELP PLEASE !!!!
lt currently has a GVWR of 9200lbs or 4170kg, and i need it downgraded.
Does anyone know of any Engineer that that issue me with a Plaque, decal or sticker that state this?
i will gladly pay a spotters fee for the person that can direct my urgent enquiry.
Thanks Guys, Darren Ridley
I've derated a trailer before, but the manufacturer was motivated by selling a new trailer.
I think Ford is the one that can derate, and have never heard of it happening (not that it couldn't, just unlikely in the big scheme of things for less money than just switching trucks)
Assuming your 79 is like my 79 the gvwr ratings are on a sticker on the door and then there is a separate VIN plate.
When I rebuilt my 79, it's frame and engine are from a Minnesota truck but most of the rest is from an Arizona truck but I retained the MN vin and titled it as a MN truck. They were both 250s but if one was a 150 and if I wanted that vin it wouldn't have been hard to switch to a 150.
I can't see any loading issues if you went to a F250 or F150 vin and sticker from the same year provided everything is derated - its just locating and title costs then.
I would watch your gcwr if you are trying to stay under 26,000 or something. These trucks don't pull trailers like the new ones - they just don't have the brakes or anything else even close for that kind of weight. If you are just trying to stay under 10,000 with a little trailer and really liked your F350 then kicking the gvwr down to get more trailer could make sense.
I would just find another truck though, there are plenty around.
Good luck, Arne
In Virginia, you can register it for less weight as far as tags and registration weights, but if you get caught over the weight on the registration, it's a fine you pay.
No points though.
