carburating a 1996 5.0

I was offered a 5.0 motor from a 1996 explorer. The motor has low miles and still runs great. Is this motor capable of being retrofitted to accept the older style harmonic balancer, pulleys, water pump, intake manifold and C4 or C6 transmissions? If I buy this motor I want it to look as stock as possible in my old F100. Thanks, Jason

If members in this forum do not have an answer suggest posting similar question in either the appropriate engine forum, or the 'injection, carburetor, and fuel system' forum. I would be interested if the fuel additives many states are now requiring; especially Ca., have more of a detrimental effect on carbureted vs injection fuel delivery. Seems every few years I end up having to rebuild the carburetor. Not sure about the 96 but some of the later models, w/ the computer chips, compensate fuel variations. Only issue w/ me is I would no longer be able to work on the engine if it were injected.

Take a look at what I did with a 5.0 roller motor in my 54 Ford. (click on my blog link below).

I think you're describing something similar with your 96 5.0 with the harmonic balancer, water pump, intake, carb, etc.

If I'm not mistaken, the 96 Explorer 5.0 heads are a pretty nice find.

Thanks for the replies. shortwide, the 5.0 has the GT40 heads and is low mileage. I will try to do what you did with your 54. I plan to to take the motor, tires, and battery from the explorer and scrap the rest. Jason

Very nice shortwide. I would lose the battery strap and find a low mount alt bracket.

Otherwise only the trained eye would know that is not original.
