Hello. Just purchased a 94 F-350 with a 460 a few days ago. Wanted to make sure the computer was not damaged by any leaking caps, but when I went to take it out one of the two retaining bolts started spinning leaving me unable to get the nut off. How can I fix this? I cannot find the other side of the bokt inside the cab.
First of all, this will be a huge pain, I think. Here's what I would do:
Take a flathead screwdriver and press it into the bolt threads from the side to give resistence against it spinning. If the nut is too close to the firewall to get the screwdriver behind it, put the screwdriver on the far end of the stud and use a crescent wrench to loosen the nut until there is room to put the flathead behind the nut.

It's 90% of the way off. I'm going to try and see if I can find where the bolt goes in on the inside. If it's where I think it is I can just replace it.
The bolt is a part of a metal cage for the ECU & a completely separate assembly from the firewall.
Best you can hope for is to grab some exposed area with locking pliers.
So its studs spot/tack welded to the metal housing, that slides in the hole cut for PCM? As if it couldn't be in a worse place, contemplating cutting bigger hole in plastic inner liner, or total removal, neither sound attractive, damn the luck! foresixtee
I had this happen to me and it is a total nightmare. Somebody overtightened that nut in the past and stripped it. There’s no removing the connector from the computer without breaking it and using a different computer. This happened to me but getting a new computer was not an option as this happened to my aftermarket Pimpxshift ECU. All 60 male pins had to be soldered onto a spare. Good luck, but you’re better off leaving it as-is.

Think I know the solution. Have to cut the remaining stud off so it's flush with the nut, then drill out out so the nut comes off and the day is saved.
