I’m replacing a 239 in a 1954 F600 (completely frozen) with a 1956 292.
The 239 has a manual transmission, obviously.
The 292 had the fordomatic 2 speed automatic transmission.
Are all y block flywheels the same… ie, can I use the 239 flywheel on the 292?
Thanks,
Jim
I think you can. Does it bolt up to your crankshaft flange?
Also, if your 54 is stock you will want to move the 6V starter and generator over to the new engine as well.
The 239 also has a one (or two?) year only water pump. Be careful with that and the crank pulley. You may want to have the water pump rebuilt and put it on the replacement engine, keeps the fan lined up with the radiator and fan shroud.

To do that, he would have to use the 239 timing cover also. The 239 water pump is smaller and won’t bolt up to the 292 timing cover. If the 292 comes from a car, you’ll have to change the timing cover to a truck timing cover to use the front motor mount.
Tried to send you a PM but it said I couldn't. What are you gonna do with the flexplate off the 292? Is it built on the converter? If it's not attached to the torque converter I'd be interested in it. Send some pictures when it's off the 292.
