I recently got a 2012 super duty and the steering wheel is pretty worn already. It sounds like this is an issue with many of these trucks. It looks like the swap is pretty easy, and the parts are available, my question is about what part I should actually get. Is there any difference other than buttons on say the BC3Z3600AC, listed for ~$190, and the BC3Z3600DB ~$260? Could I buy the cheaper one and put my buttons in them, and maintain full functionality?
What about the leather wheel? Is there any difference between it and the urethane wheel? Can I get the cheapest OEM leather wheel I can, swap my button modules into it, and use my old air bag, maintain full functionality, and have everything "look" like it belongs, or are there any subtleties that I would be missing, something that didn't look right, or something that wouldn't fit?
Obviously, I would replace the single use bolt, and make sure everything is torqued correctly, and lined up during the process, and make sure that I use proper air bag handling during disassembly and reassembly.
I did a steering wheel swap for exactly the reason you describe - on mine when I bought it, the rubber had disengaged from the steel ring on the top quarter of the wheel. The XL steering wheel has a moulded in blanking plate on the right hand side - you only have cruise controls on the left. Higher trim levels have controls on both sides. It's easy to swap the controls if the new wheel doesn't have the same controls that you require depending on your audio options. Just make sure not to purchase the XL wheel if you have right side controls. I lucked out - found a brand new take off on Facebook Marketplace for a song. 2012 F250 XL Steering Wheel
That molded plate is exactly the information I was looking for, Ill have to keep an eye out for it. I'm leaning towards getting it from my local dealer, I can get a leather wheel, and as long as I don't open the package, I can return it. I'll be able to lay the air back up on it, make sure the colors and everything looks good before I tear into it, and it's not that much more than I have found online. I'm sure it will be way more than you paid, but worth it for me. My wife, well, we'll have to work on that!
I have a stock XLT steering wheel sitting on my shelf. If you want it let me know. I did a Lariat leather wrapped upgrade on my truck a few years ago. The main thing is on the steering wheel replacement is pulling power at the battery and resting for about 30 minutes. The air bag is held on with 3 clip tabs. Underneath is a T50 or T55 screw. All I know is I got mine off at night with a 1/2 inch drive ratchet. Pull the plugs for the controls as I have controls on both sides of the wheel. Swapped the wheels. Reversed what I did. Once finished reattach the battery. Check the truck. Good to go.
Definitely interested! I tried to send a PM, but it kicked back. Could I get a picture or two of it? How much would you like for it? Could I see a pic of your lariat upgrade also? At some point, I may do the upgrade, but I have quite the list of "Want-To's" right now.
Thank you!

Sorry PM box was full. So I just cleared it out. Take it over there for details.
***Update*** I think I might have tossed it since it was getting in the way. However my basement is a mess and it might take some time to find. That's if I still have it. I might get a cleaner basement out of it though. I know I hanged on to it for a pretty long time though. The fact I think I still have it makes me think it's still here. Might not be in the area that I thought it was.
PM Sent! Truck is looking good, If you manage to dig it out, let me know, if not, no sweat, gives me an excuse to buy a factory leather wheel. I wonder what the difference between the 11-12 wheels, and the 13-16 wheels... I looked at your part number from your thread, and it my truck isn't listed as compatible, the ones I was looking at won't fit yours, but they appear identical.
