Finally had to do my first oil change since buying my truck. Only to discover that the PO used aftermarket crap. So then had to source the proper cap....
While wrenching on the oil cap, I realized that my charge pipe boot is trashed. Time to replace them all...
Went online shopping, and wow what a price spread.
Everything from like $60, to $400.
I wonder what that price spread gets/loses you. Is there a well known brand in the middle?
I found this, but don't know anything about the brand.
I found some in a Pick-u-Part yard for less than $20, IIRC. Seems like one or more from the 7.3s work on 6.0s too. But, they sell new ones in different colors, and some come with a decal. You don't have the plastic CAC tube do you? Might be a good time to do the bluespring upgrade.
If you do still have the plastic charge tube, a good time to replace with the unit pictured. It comes with the boots. The boots for the hot side run ~$45 each through Rock Auto. Those are Gates part numbers 26220 and 26221. I'm sure you can find other options out there, some for more, some for less.
I don't want to have to deal with low quality boots so I've always ran the OEM ones. No issues so far, just replace them when they start looking bad. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
Riffraff makes good boots as well I hear. I would avoid anything knockoff from Amazon, eBay, Rock Auto...

The best part of the Riff Raff boots is the rigidity it offers for the right side pipe, which tends to be very sloppy and shaky with the OEM boot
I got the riff raff for the hot side. OEM on cold side (swapped the plastic to metal pipe plus oem boots). Happy with both. The riff raff boots are stout for sure. And they have the bead for the pipe. I noticed other brands did not have the bead on the boot to align with the pipe.
I've had the RiffRaff boots on my truck for six months and they are already leaking oil through the pores.
I contacted them and this was their reply:
"Chris, If you have your CCV into your turbo intake all boots will leach oil through the pores over time. This is normal, and is even more easily evident with the glossy outer layer that is used."
To which I replied:
"I never had this problem with the Mishi boots I had on my last truck for five years."
Their reply - crickets.
Not only are they leaking oil, but when I clamp them down, the ends flare out like they're breaking down from the mineral spirits and denatured alcohol I use to clean the oil off prior to re-install.
I run and recommend Riffraff Diesel charge boots. As everyone has mentioned, they are an exact fit, and rigid while allowing a very consistent hold over the years. I have run them on my truck for at least 7 years or so now and they are still going strong.
