Gauges Sticking

I have a problem with the gauges on my 96 ranger. The temp and oil pressure gauges stick. If I tap on the plastic in front of them they go where they should be. Any ideas on how to fix this?

If all your gauges peg at the same time, fuel, temp, oil, etc. I would say it is the IVT. Instrument Voltage Transformer. It plugs into the back side of the instrument cluster and reduces voltage before the signal goes to the gauge.

It is just the oil and temp. They only do it when I first start the truck and it is not always both of them at the same time. If I thump on the plastic cover over the gauges they will go back up.

Have you taken the cluster out and inspected the gauge faces, maybe its warping. Is it the stock face plate?

Yes it is the stock one. I will take it out and look at it.
