The title pretty much sums it up. Randomly my 97 E350 V10 idle will surge intermittently. It doesn’t have a rhyme or reason? What the heck is wrong with it?
I’m not sure where the idle air control valve is located? I’ve done the other two options already. Also it stopped doing it for about a week then it just started doing it again. No rhyme or reason.

On a van, it should be easy to get to. Pull the dog house and it should be right there. Passenger side, right on the back of the throttle body. You can unbolt it (2 screws) and clean it with throttle body cleaner, let it dry and reinstall.
In my experience though, a dirty IACV will not necessarily cause surging. It will cause a low or high idle condition. But it is worth a shot.
Next step would be checking fuel pressure at the rail, which should be easily accessed as well through the dog house. It may be a faulty fuel pump, dirty/clogged filter, or faulty fuel pressure regulator.
How long does the surging last?
Full disclosure, I am still learning a lot about these engines, most my experience is with Toyotas.
